“The 2016 Barbera d’Alba Morassina is done in a much more classic style than in the past – the 2016 is the first vintage in which the wine was raised in a combination of cask and barrique, as opposed to just barrique. Medium in body and racy, with lovely palate presence, the 2016 is impeccable in its balance. This is an especially restrained style, with all of the elements in the right place. Black cherry, lavender, spice, new leather and menthol all develop in a hushed Barbera that speaks in quiet tones”

This is a thick and succulent wine with blackberry and prune that segue slowly to bitter almond and tilled earth. The presentation is simple and linear, and the ultimate takeaway here is the natural freshness of the Barbera fruit. It finishes on a tart and bright high note after 18 months of aging in Slavonian oak cask and barrique”
